Syrian refugees
Dateline: 4 September 2015
The United Kingdom has always welcomed genuine refugees whilst the right wing objects to "economic migrants". David Cameron is both empathetic and shrewd. With the shift in UK opinion he can allow thousands of suffering refugees from Syria into the country in a regulated manner; moreover, they won't have to undertake the horrendous and hazardous journey across Europe.
Extra expenditure of £100 million has been promised to implement this policy; this increases the UK overseas support to £1 billion - more than other EU countries.
We'll want to see the timescale, but it's a very positive move unlike the dithering in the rest of Europe.
