And now, the prequel.. Notes from the Road Vol III (see how I keep it simple? :) )...
As it says on the inside cover... "A retrospective of Mansfield’s journey to Mongolia from London and return. The Russian Federation and Siberia was joyful, the people still happy and not fearful; Central Asia was relatively peaceful, the population approachable and friendly. But his experience was also coloured by encounters with gangsters, corruption, mechanical failures and the breaking of bones. Taking all of this in his stride, he was humbled by the help and assistance readily given and ultimately grateful that he survived. The story is told with rich good humour, the survivalist’s ever-present antidote to the vicissitudes of true adventure."
Sounds about right!
Meantime the original Notes from the road Vol. IV ... an ecletic collection of notes in book form covering a short journey of 12,000 kms from London to ... well... if I told you wouldn't need to buy my book to find out :) So, another adventure bike rider. We ride the world (well big chunks of it) and write about it. Film it. And generally have a whole lot of fun. As well as endure stomach churning tension, downright fear and discovering how to bribe low end officialdom. Personally I'm also fascinated obsessive about motorcycles, accessories, clothing (apparel as my American friends would say) and the way Governments around the world are taking away our freedoms.
Welcome, enjoy.
My experience is that travelling alone opens up multiple possibilities for cultural exchange that are denied those who travel in groups. I sought to make the bike look friendly and fun too. And for the first time ever I decided to give the machine a name... hence Molto Gelato to hint at it’s provenance...
A new paint job is envisaged...
